Tove, I love you!

Me and my crew went to Uppsala the other day to see the Tove Jansson exhibition in Bror Hjorts hus. I got kind of inspired to start drawing for my own sake again. Her delicate pictures, skilled brush strokes and miniature ink drawings filled my heart with joy. It was also edifying to have lunch in a pittoresque garden with dear friends.

Salt and pepper @ Blås&knåda

15/3 11.00-16.00 – opening of the group exhibition Salt and pepper @ Blås&knåda where Andrea Djerf shows off her new work Shake it like a salt shaker. Her salt shakers are extra ordinary, don't miss it! The exhibition runs until the 9th of April.

Möbelfabrik (The Furniture Factory)

From the opening:

This artist has worked with renovating and reconstructing peasant furniture.
Poster and visiting card:

I chose not to show all early drafts this time. I did some peasant-style handwritten stuff but together with the furniture it seemed rather excessive.

Renée Sitting

What I did today:

Try outs on how to colour a picture among other things. I'm kind of tired of perfection – these brush strokes are not perfect but they work well anyhow. I'll try to be more »allowing« and see what happens when I don't retouch as much as I usually do.

Tomorrow is the opening for an exhibition in Konstfack: Möbelfabrik. I did posters, visiting cards, newspaper-ad etc for the artist. The website is just a temporary solution and I won't be responsible for it. I'll get back soon with photos and more info.

Delicate Paintings:

See this tiny picture? I look at it everyday. I've got it as a postcard, framed in my bedroom. It's a beautiful painting made by Jeana Sohn. I saw her exhibition in GRNY last year. (Lucky me!)

Moa Edlund @ Panorama Art

Go there! Moa's drawings are great. Dreamy, still sharp and direct.

William Kentridge @ Moderna Museet

I've got to go there, i haven't seen his work live, ever. I certainly hope that the museum guards stay off my back this time.

My MA project is crawling forward. I am scared to lose control of it, but I guess that's the only solution that I have right now. To let go of it, and trust my intuition when it tells me that I've got to loosen-up.

Pics from Modern Fables:

Well, I must say that this exhibition wasn't exactly a smash-hit. Some work was good, but the main feel I got from the show was: So what? And what's up with all these collages? (That I didn't bother to immortalize.) I was happy to see that some still contributed with one, or a pair of strong works.
The opening speech was too much: Bla bla, yes we all have drawn and doodled... Drawing is democratic... bla bla bla. This is "shocking"... Yawn!

Shout-outs to Carl Hammond for his fantastic pencil drawings:

Andreas Korsàr for his animated dance film:

This guy!

Paintings by Gertrud Alfredsson:

Emma Åkerman & Oskar Korsàr contributed with beautiful drawings, but I didn't get any good photos.

Modern Fables at Millesgården!

This Saturday is the opening for »Moderna Fabler« at Millesgården. They exhibit work from 26 contemporary artists, all working with illustration. Exhibition runs until the 18/3. I'm going there this saturday, hopefully! I'll fill you in with pictures, if you're not able to go to Stockholm.

Africa Remix

Bodys Isek Kingelez, La Ville de Sète 3009, 2000
I went to Moderna the other day, to go the guided tour of the exhibition Africa Remix. My personal favourite is the artist above. Just to imagine him building all these tiny models makes me happy. I managed to take a single photo just before one of the guards stopped me. I didn't know that it's prohibited to take pictures... The general feeling of this exhibition is disturbed by the fact that all the museum guards are stalking you. At least I was stalked through the whole site. While looking at some fantastic bread loafs made of gold and silver, I felt that someone was breathing in my neck. Then I heard his com-radio. So, the guards are not aware of physical borders.

This monday I'll start my MA-project.

»Sophie Calle visits Bill, Knut, Ulla & Lars-Åke«

The one-issue-zine is ready and sent to Sveg, where my friend lives. It’s filled with short stories from our common past. One great thing with having a friend since childhood, is that we're able to fill in each others memories. This zine captives a few moments we’ve shared since 1983.

Today we went to see the opening of »Sophie Calle visits Bill, Knut, Ulla & Lars-Åke« in the block of service flats »Väduren«. It’s a very interesting exhibition concept, made by Mossutställningar.
During September 2006 the work »Los Angeles«, by french artist Sophie Calle, was placed in four service flats in Stockholm. Four persons volounteered to have the art inside their homes for a week. Then they made their own works, in the spirit of Calle. To their help they engaged som upper secondary school students to perform their assignments.

In the exhibition they now show portraits of Bill, Knut, Ulla and Lars-Åke, their reflections on Calle’s art, their work in cooperation with the students, and »Los Angeles«. I really liked some of their stories. And the exhibition was fun too. Something unusual is happening!
